The Myth of the Tesla MedBed X: Separating Fact from Pseudoscience

The so-called "Tesla MedBed X" is an extraordinary example of health misinformation among people in this decade, combining the public's enchantment with futuristic technology and wellness trends. First, it must be said clearly at the start: there simply does not exist credible evidence, scientific support, or any official product by the name "Tesla MedBed X" from either Tesla, Inc. (the automotive and energy company run by Elon Musk) or any large medical or scientific body.

Origins of the "MedBed" Concept

This is part of the broader narrative of "MedBeds"-also referred to by the similar "meditation beds," short for "medical beds"-highly popular among many online communities, including those aligned with QAnon and various other kinds of conspiracy theories. According to these, secret, advanced medical technologies, often military or alien in origin, have been withheld from the greater public by an elite few.

Proponents of this conspiracy theory have often described MedBeds as devices capable of:

Holographic Diagnosis and Cure: Scanning the body and curing any illness instantly.

Body Regeneration: Regrowing missing limbs or organs in minutes.

Age Regression: Reversing the process of aging.

The word "Tesla" being used is probably a calculated move, playing on aspects of scientific legitimacy and cutting-edge appeal, borrowing the name of the famous electrical innovator Nikola Tesla and-by association-the highly visible company Tesla, Inc. Nikola Tesla-the man whose questionable quote about "energy, frequency and vibration" is a New Age favorite-is commonly utilized posthumously in the promotion of various pseudoscientific claims.

The Reality of "Tesla BioHealing" and Its Devices

While the "Tesla MedBed X" is a kind of phantom product in conspiratorial land, there is a company called Tesla BioHealing, Inc. which markets products including the "Tesla MedBed Generator" and "Tesla BioHealer." This company makes it very clear that it has no affiliation with Elon Musk or any of his companies.

The Core Claim: "Life Force Energy"

The devices of Tesla BioHealing are being marketed as over-the-counter medical devices, purporting to create an environment of "pure Life Force Energy" employing proprietary technology involving "naturally active stones and activated fine metal." They claim this energy can:

Activate cellular self-repair mechanisms.

Treat a wide range of chronic and serious diseases, including terminal cancers, stroke-paralysis, Alzheimer’s/Dementia, and Lyme Disease.

Provide general wellness benefits, including pain reduction, improved sleep, increased vitality, and mental clarity.

Scientific Scrutiny and Regulatory Actions

Claims made by Tesla BioHealing, Inc. for their devices are not substantiated with credible scientific and/or clinical evidence.

Lack of Scientific Basis: Its mechanism of action, based on generating "Life Force Energy" or biophoton energy to treat disease, does not align with established principles of human biology or medicine. Although a few academic publications derived from affiliated researchers of the company discuss "biophoton energy," these concepts are generally categorized as pseudoscience by the broader scientific community. FDA Warning: The FDA issued Warning Letters to Tesla BioHealing, Inc. because, according to the agency, the devices were promoted to support claims for uses (treating chronic and terminal diseases) substantially different from those of legally marketed, classified devices-which the company labeled as an "Infrared lamp" for therapeutic heating. The agency stated that the devices were adulterated since the firm did not have an approved application for premarket approval in effect. Terms of Service Contradiction: Despite the profound medical claims, Tesla BioHealing's own fine print often includes a disclaimer, sometimes referred to as a "Quack Miranda Warning," stating that their products are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease and are not meant to replace a physician's care. The Harm of Medical Misinformation The promotion of unsubstantiated technologies such as the "Tesla MedBed X" or the devices marketed from Tesla BioHealing is a serious risk. Desperate patients, frustrated with conventional medicine, may forgo or delay evidence-based care in favor of these unverified and unproven treatments. This misinformation exploits the vulnerability of individuals and families facing severe, life-threatening, or chronic conditions-sometimes with tragic outcomes, as described in various reports of adverse events filed with regulatory bodies. In other words, the "Tesla MedBed X" is a product of wishful thinking and conspiracy theory, while various related commercially available products using "Life Force Energy" in a similar fashion have been scrutinized by regulating authorities for offering therapeutic claims unsupported by scientific evidence. It is a cautionary tale about the need for critical thinking and adherence to evidence-based medicine in the face of sensationalized health claims. The video below discusses the company Tesla BioHealing and the scrutiny it's found itself under in relation to its claims and unproven treatments.
